Setbacks

Moving forwards after stepping back

It’s not always blue skies

We do not have work work-life balance. We do not understand the concept. Through medical school, residency, and attending life, it’s mainly work with some sprinklings of life. I do not believe in work-life balance. If you’re enjoying what you’re doing, then you’re really just living life. However, there can be setbacks that occur in our personal and professional lives that force us to stop and breathe. These are good checkpoints to take a moment and look around to see what’s been circling around us.

Take a rain check

When you’re moving forward in your career and personal life with such vicious momentum, certain speed bumps are required to stop you from spinning out of control. These key events strong-arm you into checking your own pulse and taking a pause for scheduled maintenance. You sometimes need to slow down to see what you’re missing. Moving at a fast pace feels like progress, but you might be missing opportunities because you’re flying by them so quickly.

It’s ok to fail

Having failures and setbacks in your life are important. They keep you humbled and keep you in check with reality. They force to to become creative, problem solve and flex your brain capacity. We can often get trapped in the mundane which can lead to complacency. Complacency can lead to mistakes and cause you to loose drive. Being faced with an obstacle in your personal or professional life is not the end of the world. Think of it as an opportunity to grow, expand, and change your perspective.

Look forwards

One aspect you will quickly come to realize is that no matter what you are going through, there will always be one constant, and that is the following: time continues to move forward. Whether you like it or not, the minutes keep moving forward, and the clock keeps ticking. With time, you can find solutions, slow down, and overcome whatever obstacle you may face. Keep this in mind because the longer you spend idling and not attacking your problems, time will keep moving.

To solving problems,
